"The Full Moon celebration is a very healing and restorative experience. Afterwards, I felt a sense of positive energy and well-being, a connection to the Universe and to community. The event offers a safe, caring and beautiful atmosphere in which to let go of anxiety, pain, or negative thoughts and welcome a fresh, new, positive outlook. Sharing this ceremony with others under Akalsukh's guidance on the night of the Full Moon was an experience I will always treasure." ~Kathryn K

"The New Moon Celebration was a wonderful experience for me. This was my third workshop with Akalsukh and once again the whole experience was beyond my expectations. I felt so connected to all the participants there, to my higher self, to the universe. Akalsukh knows exactly what kriya and mantra to use to achieve that state where you just give in and free yourself of all negativity and uplift yourself and everyone around you. Two days later and this feeling is still with me. I know in my heart the transformation I have been going through for the past year is directly influenced by kundalini yoga and Akalsukh's amazing ability as a spiritual teacher. I don't want to miss any of his workshops and I can't wait for the next one! Hope to see you there! Sat Nam" ~ Karolina

"This event was a great spiritual experience surrounded by wonderful positive energy that was given off by everyone who attended. The environment was warm, nurturing and friendly. I left feeling free of negative emotions and connected with my own spirit on a higher level. Can't wait to do it again." -MB

"Akalsukh Singh's "Full Moon Ceremony and Gong Meditation" was the first yoga class I have ever taken. I was open, enthusiastic, and in return was deeply rewarded with an elevating, spiritual experience. Akalsukh afforded resonance on every level, from encouragement in accomplishing the various postures, to guidance with specific breath patterns, movements, powerful mantras, and mental focus. Hearing him play the Gong was an amazing experience, and as I felt the pressure of sound waves vibrate through my body, I thought of what Yogi Bhajan had said, 'One who plays the Gong plays the Universe.' This event was an awesome mind, body, spirit experience for me!" Japneet, West Orange

"I experienced a powerful release, so gentle and loving that there is no doubt I would want to let go of more! More of what simply does not serve. The group dynamic offers support and opened me to the diverse experiences of the others in the group. When the ceremony was complete there was an unsaid bond, a joyous connection of our highest form of ourselves. The gong was magical as I felt all the cells in my body dancing to the vibration. It is now 3 days after the meditation and ceremony and I continue to carry the bliss and feel the cleanse and rejuvenation."Anonymous

"Last night's Full moon ceremony was powerful. I enjoyed the company of the group meditation, breath work, and chanting. The energy was healing. It was as if my heart was being massaged in this sacred space. In fact, it was." Aleah

"I left this event feeling inspired and renewed. The gong ceremony was so breathtaking for me. I felt a quietness take over my body allowing my mind to focus on my spirituality. It was a soothing, warm, friendly and very caring environment. I am still basking in the positive effects of the full moon practice today. It was an inspirational experience for me. Many thanks to Akalsukh for his expertise in teaching Kundalini yoga..." CM

"The atmosphere was beautiful and friendly . It was very impressive to see so many people attending this event. The energy in the room was serene and peaceful, yet very powerful. Some of the exercises allowed me to face some of my own strengths and weaknesses, at different levels. Attending the event was definitely a very positive step towards my spiritual growth and understanding of Kundalini yoga. Totally enjoyed the event."A.V.

"The Teacher appears when the student is ready:
I have practiced Kundalini for many years, but always with breaks in between for several years ... I believe Kundalini is especially aligned with the truth that the RIGHT teacher appears when the student is ready yoga and in all that we face in life ... Sometimes the teacher is an actual teacher, sometimes an event or happening we must learn through ...
In the NYC area there are MANY teachers ... and I have been willing to travel to the "right" one; but I found Akalsukh in my own backyard! (Montclair) ... My spirit, heart and body energy was moved in the first class ... toward greater awareness, cleansing, healing and enlightenment ...letting me know that this is the right place, and Akalsukh is the right teacher! I am a grateful student!"

New Moon

A New Moon is the time when the earth's shadow falls between the earth and our rotating moon. From our perspective on earth, the moon is dark; there is no reflected light from the sun back to the earth. In traditional cultures, this is the best time for renewal ceremonies, special fasting, special meditations, and new beginnings- letting go of the old patterns. Our internal rhythmic energy is usually much lower during the time of a New Moon. It is a good day to take a break from regular foods and eat lightly, in order to clean and clear the body and mind. Yogi Bhajan suggested that yogis could fast on lemon and water from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast. If you cannot fast (pregnancy, or other health conditions prohibit), then eating lightly, such as cooked or raw veggies and fruits for a day also can clear your system and leave you feeling refreshed.

Waxing Moon

A waxing Moon is the time after the moon appears dark in the sky (New Moon), and before the moon becomes Full.During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher centers (chakras).A waxing moon is a good time to start new projects, begin new meditations, or refocus your energy in new pattern.

In the Kundalini Yoga tradition, Yogi Bhajan taught that 11 days after the New Moon is another important day in the moon's rhythm cycle.Yogi Bhajan said that this is the day when you are in balance and that the glandular system is able to readjust itself on this day. He recommended eating very lightly (green foods) on this day, and also drinking a lemon and water mixture to support your changing metabolism.

Full Moon

The Full Moon is traditionally a time of culmination of energies. We often find that our energy level is it's highest during this cycle of the moon.We receive the highest amount of reflected sunlight off the moon's surface at this time.It was traditionally a time for people to gather because traveling was easy in the light of the moon, and energy levels high. Many women who have natural fertility cycles (no use of hormonal birth control) find that when they have regular, healthy cycles, they ovulate with the full moon.Women who spend a lot of physical time together also tend to cycle together, so if you live in a house of women, you may find that the energy is very high indeed during a full moon. You are naturally accelerated on a full moon the secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food.Save your energy to reconstruct yourself.Try to drink only liquids on the this day.If you feel you must eat, drink only milk (from a lecture by Yogi Bhajan, August 6, 1991, as printed in The Masters Touch)

Waning Moon

The Waning moon is the time after the Full moon, and before the dark moon (New Moon). It is a great time to reassess your relationships, projects and environments, and let go of things that you have outgrown, or need to release. It is also a good time to tidy up your accounts and household.A wonderful time to donate or give away items that no longer serve you, or to weed out those things and relationships that invade your psychic and emotional garden.

A note on fasting on milk:if you are able to fast on milk for the day, drink milk that is warm, and has been slowly brought to a boil (use the stovetop, not a microwave). You can also add spices that help digestion, such as ginger, cinnamon, black pepper or turmeric.
